10 Best Pet Insurances For Tibetan Dogs | Don’t Miss Dog Insurance #1 and #3

Risk of having no pet insurance

I looked at the vet bill I couldn’t pay and wondered “how much of my pup must I sacrifice”? It was one of those off-leash accidents. It just snapped, and off she went… Now, 24 hours later, I know why her mother looks at me with hate in her eyes. And why the sight of our dog’s deformed legs may even lead to a lifelong breakup. -Regretful Dog Owner

Potential Costs Of NOT Having Pet Insurance

Expensive Costs For TM's vet visits

The earlier your pet is covered by a dog health insurance, the more likely you will get a favorable quote that makes you sleep better at night.

Tibetan Mastiff Dog Insurances - Review Process

We asked Ella Minerva – an independent review writer – to run quotes from 10 top pet insurance companies, do due diligence, and rate each company.

1. We contracted Ella and asked her to do unbiased research, regardless of whether some insurance companies pay out more lucrative affiliate commissions than other companies.

2. Ella has no affiliate associations and does not get paid by any of the insurance companies mentioned.

3. At the time of writing (February 2022), we get no payments from any insurance company, nor any affiliate commissions. (However, at a later point we may sign up as an affiliate for some of the top insurance companies we have been reviewing. If we do, we will clearly state that on our website and in this blog post.) Because of that, this review should not be affected by biased commercial interests. Where else can you get an honest review like this?

2 Insurance Scenarios

Scenario 1: Wincent

Male Tibetan Mastiff • 8 Months • LA
No Earlier Conditions
  • Accident & Illness
  • 90% Reimbursement
  • $1.000 Deductible

Scenario 2: Maya

Female Tibetan Mastiff • 4 Years •FL
Operated For Hip Dysplasia
  • Accident & Illness
  • 90% Reimbursement
  • $1.000 Deductible

Scenario 1: Our writer ran 10 insurance quotes for Wincent, a male Tibetan Mastiff, 8 months old and living near Los Angeles. Each insurance quote covered Accident & Illness only, had 90% reimbursement, and a $1.000 deductible.

Scenario 2: Ran insurance quotes for Maya, a female Tibetan Mastiff, 4 years old and living near Jacksonville in Florida. Each insurance quote covered Accident & Illness only, had 90% reimbursement, and $1.000 deductible.

  • She compared the 10 insurance companies according to these 5 review criteria:

5 Review Criteria

Coverage (Accident & Illnesses)
Reimbursement rate (90%)
Annual deductible ($1.000)
Monthly fee ($)
Customer satisfaction (0-5 stars)
  1. Coverage shows how much each insurance covers and how much you get refunded. In this review, we let each insurance cover costs for accidents & illness only. This is one of the most common choices for dog owners.
  2. Reimbursement rate is set to 90% in most of our scenarios. This means that you get reimbursed 90% of the costs.
  3. Annual deductible shows how much you must pay in case of an emergency. For example, if your annual deductible is $1.000your insurance pays for anything over that amount.
  4. Monthly fee indicates the monthly fee you pay to the insurance company.
  5. Customer satisfaction evaluates independent and UNBIASED online customer ratings on a 0-5 stars rating. (Ratings and testimonials on insurance companies’ and affiliate websites do NOT count, since we believe that they are biased.)

A smooth claim when our dog unfortunately had back surgery to fix a herniated disc, handled smoothly and quickly, thank you Healthy Paws, we were compensated within a fair time frame. This interaction after 3+ years of premium made me feel great about the decision to go with this insurance provider.

My dog tends to go to the vet for random issues that occur, but I know that every time she does, HealthyPaws will be quick to help me out. Filing a claim is so easy and they reimburse me almost instantly. They truly care about their customers — even reach out to follow up with how my sweet girl is doing! HealthyPaws has been a life saver financially for us — I highly recommend!

I have been a healthy Paws family member for almost 10 years.. started the plan when my babies were 12 weeks old. Since then my one dog has had 2 knee surgeries. She jumped off the bed and injured her spinal cord and her hind legs are paralyzed.. Healthy Paws immediately reimbursed me over $5000 with her initial spine surgery and $5000 for her knees. They also reimbursed me for 40 therapy services at $90 each.. they have always been concerned, kind, prompt and never have I ever had to play phone tag or even battle for my reimbursement.. I have friends with other plans who had no faith in their plans and cancelled them and now their pets are not covered. If I wasn’t sure or couldn’t afford to care for my little girl I would have had to put her down because I couldn’t afford to care for her. My babies are happy healthy.. my little girl still cannot walk but uses a wheel chair and is the most spoiled baby ever!! Please choose Healthy Paws you will not regret it

Love it!!! I have tried everything to ease my dogs excessive barking. This actually did the trick right away. I even noticed he now barks two or three times when the mailman comes and goes back to his bed. Usually it’s a nonstop barking. Definitely recommend

I am so disappointed with this company and work in the insurance field I took this policy due to the good reviews. I purchased this with my dog when I first got him. My dog is very well cared for has been to the vet for all his check ups physicals nail clippings. My dad recently passed away from Covid so I am unable to obtain some of the records but I do have the records from day one of all his care and all the dates he was there and all that was done. I did not have any written notes from the vet so they are denying my claim. It was a minor claim very small $300 I’ve been paying for the coverage for two years. They would not help me in anyway and I found every time I called the service people were not very nice. Needless to say I had to cancel the coverage because obviously they are not going to cover any claims without these doctors notes that I cannot obtain because he passed away.

Excellent customer service when signing up for pet coverage. Catrin, the representative, was very courteous, knowledgeable, and clearly loves her job! If this first impression is any indication of what I can expect from this company, my kitty and I are in great hands!

My dog had surgery last month. The procedure was covered and Embrace was super easy to work with and efficient. My reimbursement was in my account just weeks after the surgery. They answered their phone, I wasn’t on hold and they were able to answer all my questions. I had been skeptical about pet insurance but would do it again after my recent experience.

I have had Embrace pet insurance for a pet in the past and now my corgi. I previously had another pet insurance with a past pet that did not cover as much and was about the same price. Embrace pet insurance has always been amazing to me and my animals, from customer support all the way through coverage. One large incident I'd like to bring up is that my corgi puppy recently had an accident and NEEDED orthopedic surgery on her metatarsal and tarsal where they'd put a plate in and fuse bones. The accident happened on a Thursday night, Embrace gave us pre approval for a $5.5k surgery by Tuesday the next week and she had surgery the next day.

3. Eusoh (3rd place)

4,6 (our vote)
4.6/5

Eusoh is a community based alternative to traditional pet insurance. It consists of a health sharing plan that is community owned, where the community reimburses you for accident, illness, wellness, and routine care expenses. This allows for lower monthly fees but also makes you dependent on the good-will of your community. At times, this has caused low customer satisfaction rates. However, we believe that Eusoh offers a new and interesting way to cover your vet costs.

Coverage (Accident, Illness, Wellness, & Maintenance)
Reimbursement Rate (80%)
Annual Deductible ($250)
Monthly Fee ($51-61/month)
Customer Satisfaction (4.5 of 5)

At Eusoh, you pay an initial $48 deposit and $17 monthly subscription fee. If you face vet expenses, you need to pay an annual $250 deductible until qualifying for  reimbursements. After the deductible, you are responsible for paying 20% of your submitted expenses

Customer Rating For Eusoh - Don't Get Fooled By The Low Ratings By Bloggers

An online search gives the impression of Eusoh having low customer ratings. However, the reason is that the major websites that review Eusoh do not get affiliate commissions (payment) from the company. Out of sheer greed they choose to give Eusoh low rating, so that you will pick their other reviewed insurance companies that give them commissions and good money (if you click their link and sign up).

It is all about the money. These big websites and bloggers want you to pick the companies that give them most money, rather than give you an honest review that actually helps you. At present date (Feb 2022) our insurance review article contains NO affiliate links and we get NO payment from any insurance companies.

More About Eusoh

Eusoh pet insurance provides coverage for a fraction of the price of standard pet insurance. This pet insurance firm allows members of the community to form groups and finance one another’s medical expenses, such as emergency care, surgery, or any other type of vet bill. It is indeed a community healthcare sharing plan that reimburses you for your pet’s veterinary expenditures, illness, injuries, and routine care.

Non-Standard Pet Insurance For TM Owners

  • Rather than paying set premiums as with a standard pet insurance policy, dog owners simply pay for the actual cost of treatment in their community.
  • Eusoh does not profit from refusing reimbursements/vet expenses because it does not keep any of the funds.
  • Eusoh is popular among TM owners for a variety of reasons, including its low deductible, affordable flat membership fee, and wellness coverage options that help with vet expenditures.

Enrollment

After you’ve been accepted into a community, you’ll have to wait 30 days. Following that, you will be allowed to submit any costs to the organization for up to 80 percent reimbursement, and you will have no restrictions on which veterinarian you see.
  • Unlike typical pet insurance, Eusoh does not have a complicated policy that needs to be read carefully.
  • You will not be subjected to a large list of limitations.
  • At the end of each month, the total expenses that are repaid are computed and split among the members of the group.

While Petplan isn’t the cheapest pet insurance option, its comprehensive coverage makes it a top choice for TM owners looking for a variety of treatment options for their dogs. Petplan has a single standard plan that covers both dogs and cats for illnesses and injuries.

While Petplan isn’t the cheapest pet insurance option, its comprehensive coverage makes it a top choice for TM owners looking for a variety of treatment options for their dogs. Petplan has a single standard plan that covers both dogs and cats for illnesses and injuries.

Petplan does not offer add-ons for wellness or preventative care, despite the fact that its basic plan is rather extensive. Nonetheless, its regular plan includes a one-of-a-kind wellness benefit of up to $1,000.

Cover For Immunization, Neutering, Or Spaying

For fur parents with pups or kittens who require additional preventative care such as immunizations, neutering or spaying, or other routine care treatments, the absence of wellness coverage may be a disadvantage. Mastiff owners may choose from the options given when customizing a policy:
  • Reimbursement rates of 70%, 80%, or 90% are available.
  • Annual deductibles of $250, $300, or $500
  • Coverage caps can be $5,000, $15,000, or an infinite amount per year.
Petplan, like some other pet insurance providers, does not cover pre-existing conditions, which means any health issues that occurred before the insurance policy was acquired will not be covered. Further items excluded from coverage are dental cleaning, routine care checkups, cosmetic & elective operations, neuter or spay surgery, and vaccinations, in addition to pre-existing conditions.

Trupanion - Complete Coverage

Complete Coverage But Expensive

Trupanion is ideal for Mastiff owners who want complete coverage at a reasonable price. The deductible ranges from $0 – $1,000, allowing fur parents to choose the amount that suits them best. Additionally, for owners of purebred dogs who are ready to pay a little more, Trupanion gives extra coverage for their breeding rider. Find out more in our Trupanion pet insurance review

Customer assistance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via phone, email, fax, or the Trupanion website’s contact form. Customer reviews on Trupanion indicate that communicating with their staff can be hit or miss. Many clients said the employees were kind and helpful, while others said they were ineffective. Clients who had reimbursement requests denied accounted for the majority of the negative evaluations.

4.4/5

It has plans for accidents and diseases that can be customized, and also add-on coverage for preventative care & overall wellness. Agria Pet - Highly Customizable

4.4
4.4/5

Agria does have age restrictions on the dogs it insures. The maximum age restriction for pets varies based on their breed and type. If your dog was insured with Agria before reaching the maximum age restriction, it will continue to be covered for any previously claimed ailments for the rest of its life or for the policy’s remainder.

Bonus Review: Petco Insurance - 90% Coverage

4.3
4.3/5
You always get a 90 percent payment on approved, covered services.  The majority of pet insurance businesses don’t. Also, they do cover illnesses that your dog’s breed may be susceptible to, which is something that not every provider offers. They even cover dental ailments and injuries, which is something that can be hard to come by with pet insurance.
After the regular 5-day waiting time for injuries and 30-day waiting period for illnesses, all coverage starts. This indicates your Mastiff will be covered in a shorter amount of time, and you won’t have to worry about them getting sick well before the plan takes in.
