This is general information, help and tips about photo submissions.
Detailed information about RULES
AND RESTRICTIONS CAN BE FOUND HERE.
ALWAYS SAVE YOUR ORIGINALS!!
While it's fun to enhance your photos and create neat effects
with the likes of photo shop and other software, please remember
when working with your photos to ALWAYS
ALWAYS ALWAYS save your originals. Many people are
frustrated to learn that their favorite photos are cropped
and saved in a format that is far too small. Not only in
the case of the calendar, but also for any other situation
where a larger/unedited file is required. Best practice is
to only modify and work with copies and save your originals
in a separate folder. That way, you will never lose the full-sized,
unaltered version of a cherished photo.
Subject Matter
Your picture must contain a purebred Tibetan Mastiff adult
or puppy. No human faces please but hands and feet are acceptable.
The photo MUST BE IN FOCUS. Seasonal photos will be given
special consideration. This does not necessarily mean dressing
up your TM! Backdrops including Fall colors, Spring blooms
or snowy landscape can qualify as seasonal. If
your camera has a date/time function, remember to turn it
off. It really does distract from your photos.
- Purebred Tibetan Mastiffs only
- No human faces - feet & hands acceptable
- Photos MUST be in focus
- Special consideration given to seasonal photos
- Remember to turn off Time/Date stamp
Other pets and other breeds of dogs are also acceptable
as long as the Tibetan Mastiff is the focus of the photograph.
Please don't forget your seniors or rescue dogs, these are
especially welcome!
File Orientation, Format & Pixel Size
Portrait photos are acceptable but LANDSCAPE
photos are preferred because the 8.5 x 11 size and
orientation of the calendar lends itself well to landscape
photos. So un-cropped photos at a higher resolution allow
us to crop the photo in the best way suitable for the calendar.
Acceptable - Portrait (verticle) photo
- EXAMPLE
Preferred - Landscape (horizontal) photo
- EXAMPLE
We can accept the following file formats:
It is very important that the photos be of a particular
pixel size suitable for printing. Ideally your landscape
photos (longer than tall) should be at least 2300 pixels
wide by 1800 pixels tall. Your portrait photos (taller
than long) should be at least 1800 pixels wide by 2300 pixels
tall. Larger files than this is not a problem and too big
is better than too small.
- Landscape photos (longer than tall) 2300 x 1800 pixels
- Portrait photos (taller than long) 1800 x 2300 pixels
- Photos near or approaching these dimensions will be accepted
- Remember better that your file is too large than too
small
We have found that many people were having difficulty determining
the pixel size of their photos so we created a visual aid
to help people easily find this information in Windows XP.
The example will likely be similar for Windows Vista.
